Regal Films' Lily Monteverde (also known as Mother Lily) seemed to have rubbed some people the wrong way with her previous statement about indie movies. As reported on Coconuts Manila, the "Mano Po 7: Chinoy" producer previously spoke to the media about the movie's failure to join the Metro Manila Film Festival this year, and expressed her hope that the terms of the MMFF could change in the future.
Monteverde claimed that while she has nothing against indie movies, she stressed that those films are not suitable for Christmas season, which is the period of time MMFF's movies are screened every year, and that it would disappoint children who have been enjoying more family-friendly films every Christmas. However, the statement seemed to have angered Mercedes Cabral, star of indie film "Oro" that has been selected as one of MMFF's entries this year. Taking her wrath to Facebook, she wrote, "Pity the children? Just admit that you're after the box office returns for your movie. Then you should have paid people properly." She added, "And are you the only one who has the right to release a movie during Christmas? [Expletive] idiot." Source/s: JudgeBGallery, Yahoo! |
