MANILA, PHILIPPINES -- Just this morning, a lot of BPI account holders are having issues with their account as some have lost money and some have negative balances.
Just today, around 6:30AM, there has been a Tweet circulating online that BPI accounts may have been hacked as some are seeing withdrawals and even some are getting negative balances as up to five digit negatives. Check out the tweets below:
Bank of the Philippine Islands has not issued any statement yet. Everyone is advised to check their accounts, and take screenshots of their transactions too for reporting. BPI Express Online channels are currently down and the customer service hotline are reported to be non-responding to any inquiries as of the moment.
As of 7:30AM -- There are also reports that some accounts have observed a significant increases too in their balances. As of 7:50AM -- While the issue still is not trending on Twitter, official Twitter account of BPI, @TalktoBPI has not made any statement as well as of this time. As of 7:59AM -- All BPI channels are currently down. You may still check your balances at your nearest BPI / Expressnet ATMs.
As of 8:00AM -- Official Facebook Page of BPI has already issued a statement regarding the issue:
As of 9:00 AM - BPI CEO has responded: "This is not a hacked issue. This is a data processing issue. I do apologize to our clients who are greatly affected on this," - Cezar Consing, President & CEO, BPI via ANC.
